News from the Civil Society Days: website, registration, location

Posted on August 18, 2011

The application process for this year’s GFMD Civil Society Days (CSD)  in Geneva, Switzerland, has opened along with the unveiling of a new dedicated GFMD civil society website.  Finally, the location for the CSD meeting has been announced:

The meeting, for the first time organized by the International Catholic Migration Commission (ICMC) will take place from November 29 to November 30 in the Geneva Palexpo exhibition center

The government meeting will be held on December 1 and 2 at the United Nations Palais  de Nations .

This is also most likely the location where the common space deliberations between civil society and the government representatives  will be held on the morning of December 1. Modalities and themes are still being negotiated, but if last year’s common space serves as a model, the formal statement of results and recommendations from the CSD will be presented to  the governments followed by panel discussions and then input from the full assembly.

The CSD is planned to offer space to 150 – 200 Delegates. Since a larger number of applications is to be expected, the organizers stated that selection will take into account “sectoral, geographic, and gender  diversity, broad constituency and relevant experience and knowledge on migration and development issues.”

Deadline for the online application is September 13.

More information  can be found at the new GFMD civil society website:

Selection of CSD Delegates will be supervised by the Civl Society Core Group, an advisory group that consists of of 12-15 civil society leaders.
